A week unplugged doesn't always mean stress free…

There’s a debate going on between Jessica and I about how good or bad our week-long vacation in Maryland went. I, the “realist verging on pessimism” came back with a darker opinion…at first. But then I started going through my photographs and the memories of the millions of mosquitoes and searing sun and humidity began to fade.
Overall, we had one bit of stress each day…1. struggling with the bike rack at 7.00AM 2. finding out that “the mosquitoes were ‘bad’” is a VAST understatement 3. finding out that there were less bike paths than we thought 4. being evacuated for Hurricane Earl 5. getting a $100 parking ticket in DC 6. being unable to find a gas station with air for my leaking tire 7. getting stuck in traffic for 3 hours not moving trying to get from New Jersey to New York 8. getting home to find out our gas has been shut off and we have no stove, hot water or heat
But then I have to list all the good things that happened…1. Jessica and I don’t hate each other after a few tiffs in the heat and mosquitoes 2. the wild horses and other wildlife in Assateague and Chincoteague were magnificent 3. being evacuated for Hurricane Earl 4. my mom and Jessica’s dad for donating hotel points to rescue us from the mosquitoes and Earl 5. a personal tour through Capitol Hill by Jessica’s high school friend, Alex 6. an excellent Oreo milkshake 7. only getting a $100 parking ticket, not having it get towed 8. my photographs turned out amazing
So here’s some of the photos…I’ll work on getting a few more ready for my next post, including my mosquito wounds. We’ll also have product reviews coming out the wazoo because we tried out oodles of new gear.

Thanks DR! We still love camping though. We are pretty sure it will only get better from here! Haha!
The gas stove exploded. Hence it being shut off. It’s looking good for them maybe actually doing something about it tomorrow.
Cheers,
Rachel

Finally saw where to leave a comment on this thing…
Glad to hear you and Jessica don’t hate each other! Being unplugged for a week can really bring out the stressors sometimes…just ask my parents about the “Family Vacation from Hell”, lol. (Camping around Lake Superior in a Lincoln Town Car doing only things my dad wanted to do…my mom voluntarily slept on the couch for a week after that vacation.) Ugh to mosquitoes and heat–the main reasons I hate camping. That and all the stuff you have to bring with you. I hate bug spray too. I’d rather suffer than spray on all the chemicals. I can’t stand the smell or feel of DEET. All learned growing up in the northwoods of WI. At least you and Jessica got to escape the heat and mosquitoes for a night!
That sucks about the parking ticket, but at least you weren’t towed. I had a friend in colege who was towed in DC, and she said it was a nightmare to get her car back. It sucks even more about your gas being shut off. Any idea why they shut it off? I saw on FB that you’re going to lodge a complaint. I hope you get everything settled soon and without too much hassle. (And thankfully it’s not winter.)
To end on a positive note, your pictures are amazing! The ponies are especially gorgeous!
