Our Route

Posted by

Planning a route has been a tricky endeavor.  Every mile counts when you’re hauling all your belongings, but we also don’t want to miss something worth seeing.  We’ve been using a combination of MapMyRide.com, Garmin GPS mapping software and checking our smart phones on a regular basis to plot a course that is primarily the most direct but that also takes resources like lodging, food and elevation into account.

We’ve set a pin in the map below for each place we’ve stopped for at least one night in the first half of our tour:

As we move forward into the second half of our journey, we are yet again faced with the problem of which direction to take.  We have set an end goal of Santa Rosa, CA.  It’s about 2000 miles from Austin, TX and there are about three or four possible variations to the route that we could take.  Rachel has never been to the Grand Canyon, so that is a huge draw.  But then the timing could place us in Death Valley right as the summer heat is starting to kick in.  Needless to say, we’ll keep adding pins to the map as we go along and share what our routing choices end up being.
